In March 2020 a state of emergency was announced in Finland because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Uusimaa region was cut off from the rest of the country for a couple of weeks and strong restrictions applied until May 31. While gyms, swimming halls and other sports facilities were closed and gatherings restricted, people spent more time outdoors in their own district, mostly following guidelines for social distancing. These pictures were made in my neck of the woods in Helsinki, during my daily walks as I was navigating the paths and negotiating the thickets – while the spring was progressing. Consisting of appr. 90 pictures, this series was my contribution to the Poikkeustila 2020 project.
Publishes as a book in 2022.
